The Circle of Life | Lebo M., Shuang Ding

I know I am a little late for this review, but here I am! 😊 The Lion King premiere Friday, July 19, 2019 and yes, even though I was on vacation in Tennessee, I made time out my schedule to get my butt to the theater to see this movie. I am a 90’s baby at heart and it was a MUST for me to see it lol. If you have not seen the movie, what you waiting for?! I suggest you do because let me tell you… it was good!

Overview

The Lion King 2019 is basically a remake of the animated 1994 film, but is pictured as a realism film. Show of hands: Who wanted to see how the director and producers were going to remake our all time favorite movie into a realistic movie? And, did they do a great job at it?

If you didn’t know, the backstory of The Lion King is about a Prince cub named Simba who will one day become King of the Pride Lands in Africa. Simba admires his father, King Mufasa, but Mufasa’s brother, Scar is not as accepting knowing his brother currently reigns and his nephew will one day be King. Adventures, drama, and tragedy takes place in the Pride Lands, which leads to an unexpectedly enlightening in Simba’s eyes.

To answer my questions, I believe the director and producers have done a fantastic job! The trailer that was produced gave us viewers a glimpse into the meaning of realism. It is not the nice, cookie cutter film we get from animation. We are shown the real deal of nature and how an animal looks in its realistic form. From Simba’s mane blowing in the wind, to the gazelles galloping in lavish, green grass and even Pumba’s warthog features. The new Lion King brought us a different insight within the same setting.

And I loved every minute of it! If you’re going to see this movie or you may have already, be aware that there will be children along to watch. Children who are in their 20’s and 30’s as well as little ones 😂. Meaning there may be kids talking in the theater because they are so excited and want to know what this is or that. Either way, expect younger crowds to be there.

I feel that the movie was done so beautifully and powerfully for us 90s babies. The songs we grew up on still conveyed a message, which is passion. There was so much passion and emotion in the songs and throughout the movie that it never let the audience feel like the movie is overrate. Overall, I would buy this movie and cannot wait to show my future kids what we grew up on. Great job!
