Whatchamacallit – Ella Mai ft. Chris Brown

Hello August… please be good. I cannot believe it will almost be two years since I’ve been out of college. School is back in session for those who are coming back for another year of studies or, if this is your very first year in college, welcome! August/September are the months some colleges begin classes and I hope you are prepared! I generated a list below of some of the things you may or may not want to bring with you to school depending on if it applies. I also composed some tips along the way to help. Keep on reading to find out!

ACADEMIC SUPPLIES

  • Laptop
  • Backpack (Heavy Duty)
  • Planner
  • Calculator

First thing first. You’re going to need academic supplies. Of course buy school supplies because how else you’re going to take notes and stuff? That means a yes for paper, pens, pencils, notebooks, etc. and anything else your class requires you to bring. Please do not forget your textbooks! That is a rookie mistake. Read your syllabus and ask your professor if they have not mentioned it already if you’re going to need to buy that textbook before you waste yo’ dollars.

BED & BATH

  • Linen
  • Pillows
  • Mattress Foam Topper
  • Towels/Washcloths
  • Shower Caddy-soap, body wash, deodorant, etc.
  • Shower Shoes
  • Toilet Paper
  • Toiletries
  • Hangers

I cannot stress this enough… take care of yourself hygienically! Make sure you are smelling fresh and clean at all times. Shower, shower, shower! College will not provide you with toiletries, towels, pillows and all the other things you need to hygienically. Be grateful if they provide you with toilet paper. Make sure you either pack those things from home or purchase from your local Wal-mart or store. Also, invest in a mattress foam topper cause believe me when I tell you those twin beds ain’t no joke on your back.

KITCHEN

  • Mini Refrigerator
  • Microwave
  • Paper plates, bowls, cups, etc.
  • Utensils
  • Pots, pans, etc.
  • Dish Soap, dish towels/rags

Whether you have a roommate or not, a mini refrigerator and microwave is a NEED! Trust me, once that dining plan from school runs out and you broke, what you gonna do? This is when real groceries come in. šŸ˜‚ Save that pocket money you earned from working on campus and buy you some cereal, ramen noodles, hot pockets and whatever else that’s microwaveable. That fridge and microwave is gonna be your best friend lol.

LAUNDRY & CLEANING SUPPLIES

  • Laundry basket AND travel laundry bag
  • Detergent/Bleach
  • Sanitize wipes/hand sanitizer
  • Dryer sheets
  • Hand soap

Let me tell y’all the GOAT to doing laundry in college. Bring that shit home! Excuse my language, but I am so serious. Instead of wasting money, waiting on people to get their shit out the washer/dryer, or lugging it around campus, bring your laundry home for the free 99! I recommend buying a laundry basket and a laundry bag (the ones that carry like a backpack), because it is way easier to carry around.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Student ID
  • Car (if applicable)
  • Dry Erase board, markers
  • Fan
  • Room decorations
  • REAL friends

These items are miscellaneous things I thought of. If you do not have a car, it is not a big deal because you will either make friends with people who do have one or your university should offer some type of transportation services. Yes I’m serious about the last bullet point. Make time for REAL friends who have your best interests. I repeat BEST INTERESTS. But most of all, get good grades and have fun! You only experience your undergraduate career once, so make the best of it!
